Aughton House in Bayswater brings together everything sustainable home design can be. An eTool life-cycle assessment found it produces 83% less CO₂ over its lifetime than an average new home, it shows that environmental responsibility and generous, beautiful family living go hand in hand.

The elevated block faces north to the street, so the home opens to the front, making connection to the street and the neighbourhood part of everyday life. Bedrooms sit upstairs, with a flexible ground floor below.

Efficient design that makes a small space feel big and liveable, with a low carbon footprint.

Sustainable living shaped the design from day one: a home open to the outdoors that works well for a family. Sleeping zones are upstairs, and the ground floor can be divided with sliding doors to create a separate activity room when it's needed.

The pergola is set to let winter sun in to warm the home and keep high summer sun out, a simple passive solar move that works with Perth's climate rather than against it.

Every material was chosen with care: local Marri timber benchtops, a recycled glass tile splashback, concrete floors downstairs and bamboo upstairs.

Solar panels with a 10 kWh battery, a rainwater tank, heat-pump hot water, double glazing, ceiling fans and heat recovery ventilation all work together, so the home uses less energy and has less impact on the planet.
