Modern Farmhouse · Mt Claremont, Perth WA
Courtyard
House
Project Overview
Authentic living,
wrapped around the garden.
Courtyard House in Mt Claremont is a modern farmhouse-inspired home designed around connection — to its established garden, to the elevated landscape, and to the outdoor life Perth makes possible. The design wraps the living spaces around the existing trees and garden, making nature the centrepiece of everyday life.
Inspired by the Queenslander Bungalow with its wide verandah, this home is all about authentic living — rediscovering the connection between inside and outside, and making the most of the elevated block with its different levels and sunset views.
Concept
A home for authentic living — where the garden is not the backdrop but the centrepiece, and every room opens toward the landscape.
Where the garden
becomes the home.
The design takes its cues from the Queenslander Bungalow tradition — wide verandahs, generous overhangs and a strong relationship between interior and exterior. Rather than imposing a form on the site, the home follows the natural contours of the elevated block, creating a series of outdoor rooms at different levels that capture views and sunsets to the west.
The central courtyard organises the home — private and social spaces arranged around this outdoor heart, each room connected to the garden through generous glazing and direct access. The established trees are preserved and celebrated, providing natural shade, privacy and a sense of maturity that no new planting can replicate.
Privacy and seclusion within the city — a home that feels like a retreat while remaining connected to the best of inner suburban Perth.
The modern farmhouse aesthetic grounds the home in material honesty — natural timbers, textured renders and honest detailing create warmth and character without pastiche. At 273m² on a 1011m² block, the home is generous without being excessive — leaving plenty of garden to live in.
