The
Treehouse
Project Overview
Living among the trees,
above the river.
The Treehouse is a mid-century inspired passive solar home in East Fremantle — designed to dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside, between the tree canopy and the living room, between the ocean views and the daily rituals of family life. Set on an 890m² block with beautiful established gardens, the home celebrates its natural setting as its greatest asset.
With reference to the bridges that connect the different platforms of a treehouse, the main spatial axis of the home does exactly the same — connecting north and south decks, day and night activities, and horizontal and vertical navigation throughout. The result is a home that feels like an adventure to inhabit, while remaining deeply grounded in its landscape.
Concept
A home inspired by the treehouse — platforms, bridges and canopy views that make every movement through the house an experience of nature.
A bridge between
inside and out.
The site already has a beautiful established garden — and rather than treating it as a backdrop, the design makes it the centrepiece. Working with the existing levels, the home brings the connection of the lower garden back into the house through generous glazing, direct access and a consistent visual relationship with the tree canopy from every key living space.
The main axis of the home connects the north and south decks — a bridge-like circulation spine that links day and night zones while maintaining views to the ocean and river beyond. From the upper levels, the Fremantle port and Swan River create a backdrop that changes with the light throughout the day, making the home feel different at every hour.
A home that feels like an adventure to inhabit — platforms, views and canopy that make every room a new discovery.
The mid-century aesthetic grounds the home in a timeless architectural language — horizontal lines, generous overhangs, natural materials and a strong indoor-outdoor connection that feels at home in East Fremantle's creative, characterful neighbourhood. Passive solar design principles work quietly in the background, ensuring comfort throughout Perth's warm seasons.
