Modern Family Home · Lesmurdie, Perth Hills WA
Lite
House
Project Overview
Strong outside.
Light within.
Lite House in Lesmurdie is a study in contrast — a bold, masculine exterior that conceals a deeply light-filled and airy family home within. The strong form reads confidently in the Perth Hills landscape, while inside, generous glazing, double-height voids and a connection to the established tree canopy create a home that feels open, calm and alive.
On a 900m² block in Lesmurdie, this 297m² family home captures established tree views on both levels — programming the spaces around the landscape rather than the other way around. The result is a home where nature is never far from view, no matter where you are inside.
Concept
Living among the trees — every space oriented toward the established garden, the mango tree, and the natural Perth Hills landscape.
Living among
the trees.
The spatial organisation of the home is driven by the existing landscape — the beautiful mango tree at the front of the property and the established trees at the rear become the anchors around which the rooms are arranged. Upstairs living spaces look directly out into the tree canopy, creating a sense of elevation and immersion in nature that defines the character of the home.
The connection between upper and lower floors is made playful and memorable through a netted hammock lounge — a space that bridges levels, captures filtered light and creates a unique moment of rest and connection within the vertical flow of the home. It is a detail that speaks to the personality of the design: serious about performance, but never without delight.
Bold on the outside, light within — a family home that wears its character proudly while offering calm, tree-filled sanctuary inside.
The exterior palette is deliberately strong — dark tones and solid forms that anchor the home to the Perth Hills landscape. Inside, this gives way to light-toned walls, natural timbers and generous openings that flood the interior with natural light. The contrast is intentional: the home feels like a retreat from the world outside while remaining deeply connected to its natural setting.

built into every detail
Bold Exterior, Light Interior
A strong masculine exterior in dark tones gives way to a light-filled, airy interior — a deliberate contrast that makes the home feel like a retreat from the outside world.
Tree-Oriented Programming
Every space organised around the established trees — the mango tree at the front, the canopy at the rear — creating rooms that feel immersed in nature at both levels.
Netted Hammock Lounge
A unique hammock lounge connects upper and lower floors — bridging levels, capturing filtered light and creating a playful moment of rest within the vertical flow of the home.
Double-Height Living
Upstairs living spaces overlook the front garden and mango tree — creating an elevated, tree-house feeling that makes the most of the Perth Hills landscape and outlook.
Multi-Level Indoor-Outdoor Flow
Tree views and outdoor connection maintained from both levels — the home is designed to feel surrounded by nature no matter which floor you inhabit.
Natural Material Contrast
Dark external tones contrasting with light internal timbers and warm finishes — a material strategy that creates depth, character and a genuine sense of arrival when entering the home.
